112th Anniversary Party

Come celebrate the Founding of Rotary in Chicago, IL recognized as the ‘World’s First Service Club’.   Rotary started with founder Paul Harris on February 23, 1905.  Today, The Paul Harris Home is currently going through restoration and being converted to a museum to recognize Paul and Jean Harris, the early years of Rotary’s growth and the many contributions of Rotary worldwide to peace and humanitarian projects. 

 


3/28/2017 Luncheon:

Joseph Szabo, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning


Appointed as executive director by the Board of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) in June 2015, Joseph C. Szabo has varied experience in local, state, and federal governments, civic affairs, and transportation. CMAP and its partners are developing ON TO 2050, a new comprehensive regional plan to help the seven counties and 284 communities of northeastern Illinois to implement strategies that address transportation, housing, economic development, open space, the environment, and other quality-of-life issues.

 


4/11/2017 Luncheon:

David Hirsch & John St. Augustine, authors: "21st Century Dads"


David’s professional career began in 1982 when he obtained his CPA and worked as an auditor and then tax accountant with Price Waterhouse in Chicago.  From 1985 to 2007 he was a financial advisor with Smith Barney, Inc., where he was a Senior Vice President and a member of the firm’s Chairman’s Council since 1990.  He spent eights years as a Director at Credit Suisse Private Banking USA, before that firm left the U.S.  He is currently a Senior Vice President at UBS Wealth Management.  His clients include foundations, endowments, and high net worth individuals.  He prides himself on taking a consultative approach in a product-driven industry.

The annual luncheon has recognized Chicagoland non-Rotarian woman professional and civic leaders who have exemplified ‘service above self’. 

 

6/27/2017 114th President’s Installation:

Conor Gee, Conducted by RI President Ian Riseley

 

Ian Riseley is a practicing accountant and principal of Ian Riseley and Co., which specializes in advising local and international businesses, and 

has a strong interest in international affairs. He received the AusAID Peacebuilder Award from the Australian government in 2002 in recognition of his work in Timor-Leste. He also

 received the Order of Australia medal in 2006 for service to the Australian community.

Conor Gee is a Lead Marketing Communications Consultant for Health Care Service Corporation (which operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in five states including Illinois), the largest customer-owned health insurance company in the United States. Previously, he worked in marketing at Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare and as the Director of Marketing for Hearing Health Center. Conor is an active member of Rotary One, the world’s first Rotary Club and service organization, serving on its Board of Directors and has been elected to be President for the 2017-2018 Rotary year. When he takes office, Gee will become the youngest President in the 113-year history of the organization. He also serves as a member of the National Alumni Association Board for Spring Hill College, his alma mater.

 

07/18/2017 Luncheon:

Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archdiocese of Chicago


On November 19, 2016, Blase J. Cupich was elevated to the Sacred College of Cardinals at the Basilica of St. Peter in Vatican City. Cardinal Cupich was appointed by Pope Francis after serving the Archdiocese of Chicago for over two years.

Cupich was installed as the Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago in September 2014 and was elevated to Archbishop that November. Cupich came to Chicago from the Diocese of Spokane, where he had served as Bishop since September 2010. Prior to that, Cupich served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Rapid City for 12 years. Before landing in South Dakota, Cupich served as a pastor in Columbus, Ohio and Bellevue, Washington, and as the Secretary at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, DC. Ordained to the priesthood in 1975, Cupich started out in the Archdiocese of Omaha, where was pastor of two parishes.

ROTARY/One hosts the employers, sponsors and interns of the club’s signature project serving the Youth of Chicago.   Following multiple training sessions, high school juniors and seniors are placed in full time positions for the summer.

The Rotary Club of Chicago provides charitable grants and hands on service projects to dozens of Chicago and International nonprofit agencies.  The primary funding for these projects is from the club's annual campaign and earnings of the foundation. ROTARY/One History


The Rotary Club of Chicago was founded on February 23, 1905.  Leaders of the club went on to establish Rotary International in 1910.  Paul Harris, Rotary's founder, became the first international president and Ches Perry, of ROTARY/One became the first general secretary of the newly formed international office.   The Rotary Club of Chicago, operating as ROTARY/One, the world's first service club, has for 112 years remained dedicated to the Rotary Movement and its continued growth to over 200 countries. ...FOR MORE ABOUT ROTARY'S HISTORY PLEASE CLICK HERE.
