Rotary After Work: Behind-the-Scenes Tour at Chicago Union Station

5-6:30: presentation and tour (arrive 5pm sharp)
6:30: Move to Little Toasted, 300 S. Riverside
Meet inside the 500 West Jackson entrance, on the north side of the block between Clinton and Canal.
Tour involves walking and stairs; wear comfortable shoes

Come experience the renaissance occurring at the nation's third busiest rail terminal, handling more passengers daily than Midway Airport. Recent projects have restored and re-utilized many spaces surrounding the historic Great Hall. The Women's Lounge, with its ornate ceiling and dramatic murals; the original grand dining room; and the barber shop have all been restored. A new, grander Metropolitan Lounge has been constructed next to the Great Hall. The Grand Staircases in the Great Hall (made famous in the movie The Untouchables) have been restored and upgraded to modern accessibility standards. The Great Hall skylight has just been restored to its original splendor - and strengthened to modern standards, along with a complete historically accurate restoration of the Great Hall.

Current plans call for developing the real estate in and around the station, as well as increasing station capacity, accessibility, and safety to prepare it for the next 100 years.

We will explore the restored splendor of Union Station, see spaces proposed for development, and learn about how future platform, track, concourse, and intermodal connection projects will shape transportation in Chicago.
