Luncheon: Ed Voorhees, CEO, Rust-Oleum

Ed Voorhees is the Chief Executive Office and leader of Rust-Oleum Corporation, originally founded in 1921, and a 1.6 billion dollar division of the RPM Corporation, Medina, Ohio. His background includes over 30 years of experience in the consumer retail marketplace. Built on three pillars of business success - strategy, innovation, and creating a winning culture - Ed has been instrumental in the growth of the organization from 50 million in 1983 to 1.6 billion during his tenure. Ed has taken one Brand when he started to stewarding over a hundred Brands today. Ed started his career as a Key Accounts/District Manager in November of 1983, and has utilized fundamentals of business leadership to excel through all levels of his organization to his current role. Ed was elevated to President of North American in 2012 where he manages the top revenue division within the RPM portfolio of companies. Currently, all business groups report in to Ed including eight acquisitions that he has completed where he is now responsible for over 2,500 Employees.

As a seasoned leader, Ed is focused on increasing shareholder value and leading his organization in creating an inspired winning culture. Ed expects his team to carry on the legacy of all-in passion, leading their human capital to excellence, developing all employees to succeed, and driving innovation. Ed’s functional expertise in the areas of Internal Education, Navigation of a Family Business, Finance, General Management, Global Business, Human Resources, Compliance, Legal, Marketing, Operations, Sales, and Strategy make Ed an in-demand resource for all customers. Ed has also appeared twice on national TV CNBC’s Power Lunch discussing Innovation. Ed's formal education in compliance (Sarbanes Oxley) and his dedication to diversity makes Rust-Oleum one of the top Corporations in the Chicago market to work for. Ed is Chairman of the Recognition Team and is also a board member of Rust-Oleum Cares Foundation.

Ed’s educational foundation and competitive spirit began at St. John’s University where he held a 3.5 GPA. Ed earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Adelphi University where he graduated with highest honors Summa Cum Laude (3.95). After his (3) year career with Union Carbide, Ed began his career at Rust-Oleum where he held positions as Key Accounts/District Manager, National Account Executive, Vice President of National Accounts, Senior Vice President of Sales, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing, President of Sales and Marketing, President of Rust-Oleum North America and currently Chief Executive Officer, Rust-Oleum Corporation. To support Ed’s commercial responsibilities, he attended the highly accredited University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and completed the Executive Development Program in 2005. This customer-facing experience and educational background is why Ed has gained the grass roots success in a highly competitive retail environment. Ed has also attended the War College Leadership and the Center for Creative Leadership Programs.
Civic and Personal
As a leading employer in the town of Vernon Hills, Illinois, Ed believes in giving back to the community and is very active with the United Way, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Habitat for Humanity and sits as an advisor to many of the local community organizations. Ed currently serves as President of Rust-Oleum Cares. Ed was born and raised on Long Island, New York; is married to his wife of 35 years, has three children, two grandchildren and resides in Libertyville, Illinois where he enjoys his three passions - family, friends, and sports.
