Luncheon: Manuel Barbosa, Retired Federal Judge
Manuel Barbosa is a retired US Bankruptcy Judge with an inspiring American dream story, captured in his autobiographical book,"The Littlest Wetback". The book narrates his family background in the Mexican Revolution and his childhood as an undocumented farm worker. His journey is narrated with commentary and insight into the current issue of immigration based on his personal experiences and his travels as a lecturer and observer in various central American countries and Mexico
Manuel was the first Chairman of the Illinois Human Rights Commission and held that post for 18 years. He practiced law in The Chicago area for 20 years and served on the federal bench as a Bankruptcy judge for 15 years. He is a frequent motivational speaker for students and serves on advisory Boards for Northern Illinois University School of law as well as Benedictine University..He has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Matehuala in Mexico and is an honorary distinguished Counselor to Mexico's National Bar Association. He serves as Chairman to the Kane County Zoning Board of Appeals and is working on his second book ,while his first book is about to be published in Spanish.
